Link Roads

Link roads are highways designed with the emphasis placed on movement. Motorways, Trunk Roads and Local Distributor Roads all fall under this category, and their design is primarily influenced by the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW). FMW has staff with experience of the wide range of design standards included in these documents. TD9/93 (Highway Link Design) and TD16/07 (Geometric Design of Roundabouts) are commonly used, but our engineers also design to other standards such as TD42/95 (Major and Minor Priority Junctions), TD50/04 (Signal Controlled Junctions) and many more.

Understanding these standards is important, but FMW also understand that strict compliance does not always guarantee an economic or safe design. Where appropriate we can apply our knowledge to negotiate departures from standard and gain approval from the adopting highway authority.
